I am a PhD student in Political Science at the University of Guelph. I received my MA in Political Science and my BA(hons) in Legal Studies from the University of Waterloo.  

My research interests focus on Canadian politics, constitutional politics, political institutions, executive power, and the exercise of emergency powers.

My current research examines the exercise and justification of strong emergency powers by the federal executive in Canada during the Freedom Convoy, and what this political event reveals about the limits and normalization of strong executive power in a constitutional democracy. 

Previously, my MA research examined whether the recent uses of the notwithstanding clause (2017-2024) were consistent with democratic norms in Canada. The norms assessed in these bills were the protection of minority rights, deliberation, and institutional/legislative accountability.
